Jesus is the Light.

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life  (John 8:12)

Being one of Jesus' "I am" statements what difference does it make?  What it is about being "Light" that makes a difference in our own life?  What exactly is Jesus meaning here, and what does it do to our inner lives?

I think for us to really look at Jesus being the Light we must first understand that we are all in Darkness.  If we look at Genesis we understand that before there was anything there nothing.  So without anything there is darkness.  Total Darkness.

We are in darkness until we meet Jesus.  Jesus is the light that shines in our darkness.  The strange thing is that darkness is always there.  You don't turn on the darkness.  You turn on the light.  The light just overcomes the darkness.  This is the way Jesus comes in to our life.  He comes in and rescues us from the dark.  He saves us from what is there.  He is our eternal rescuer.

We all are walking in the dark.  We stumble around until the light comes to save.

The light saves us from the dark.

The light shows us where we are.

The light shows us where we are going.

Jesus is that type of light.
